Hector And The Secrets Of Love by Fracois Lelord

Hectors Journeys
Hector, our intrepid psychiatrist, sets off on a new globe-trotting mission – and this time he's looking for LOVE.
Immediately the reader is introduced to the Hector and his world as a psychiatrist and is instantly drawn to the humble hero. Hector is not ashamed to say that he finds most of his patients drivel boring and often falls asleep during his sessions. He believes that encouraging his patients, often telling them what they want to hear, helps them heal their woes.
But Hector too has woes of his own.
He is in love with Clara, who's connections at a large pharmaceutical company employ Hector for his latest mission. To track down and return a missing professor who has vital information for the company.
This is where Hectors journey takes him half way across the world. It is here in the East that he meets the beautiful Vayla and begins to question human desires and longing for love.
François Lelord work is poetic and charming infiltrated with dry wit and philosophical observations. This lures the reader to rouse questions of their own.
The digestible chapters which are clearly titled to direct the reader along with Hector's excursions and search for answers to some the greatest questions of all time. All about love and life's assertions of love.
Lorenza Garcia beautifully translated François Lelord's first book, the multi-million-selling Hector And The Search For Happiness, and once more she has successfully translated this his outstanding follow-up fable.
Hector And The Secrets Of Love couldn't have come at a better time for me personally and what with Valentines Day just around the corner. Love translates in every language. I would recommend it to anyone struggling for that perfect gift for their beloved.
Have you read either of François Lelord's books? Keep your eyes open for his third book Hector Finds Time which is coming soon.

Hmm love philosophy, my main one has got to be "Id rather be happy and alone than together and miserable!" In the end you have to love yourself enough not to change yourself for a partner, because when you finaly break, your partner will wake up with a stranger, and that's no good for either side of a relationship. Just be patient, be yourself and you'll find the right person.

Very raw and intriguing. My secret? I've only been married 6 years. I'll let you know when it's 60.
14 February 2011 22:58Humor and don't argue about stupid things, especially if your a man. Remember: "Happy wife, happy life!"
15 February 2011 15:06I disagree with Magikal. Changing is growing. You have to be open minded and introspective and be willing to change those things about you that make you a jerk. We all have them. Unless, of course, you like being alone. Some people do.
I totally agree Bill humour is definitely an integral ingredient in any relationship. However I think there has to be a limit to how much one person can change for another. I know that I have changed alot about myself (for the better) to be with Doo. But sometimes I have to remind myself who I once was (the good parts not the bad). That's why I'm so passionate about my blog etc. Without that I would just be Kate Younglings mum and Doo's partner. Not Kate the creative ex Drama student who enjoys and thrives on writing and seeing the world in an artistic view point. Regardless if Doo doesnt think I'm any good or I am naiive to dream.
Great replies guys, keep 'em coming ;-) xx
