Frugal Friday

As one of my New Years Resolutions is to save more and spend less I have been asking my friends over on Twitter for some money saving tips. Kate from;
The Five Fs
blog gave me some excellent advice on planning our meals in advance. That way we don't steer away from the food list and can look for the cheapest versions of the ingredients when shopping. I also asked her about portion sizes as I am forever wasting some food left over on the plate. I think I am so used to cooking for two adults and a child that it will take some more adjusting. Plus I have been a greedy guts recently which I definitely have to address. Kate said most packages have the recommended measurements on the side but I may look into this in a little more detail.

Kate writes a post every Monday planning her meals for the family for the week. I was kindly invited to join in and having skimmed through Kates previous Meal Planning Monday posts I think it's a great incentive to link up and prepare. You know what I am like with my lists and what-not. Did I tell you that when Doo moved out I got myself a chalk board for the kitchen to write my shopping lists on etc? By far one of my best purchases of 2011. When I get the house straight (de-cluttered and tidy) I will take you all on a proper tour. May even experiment with a Vlog - ooh get me learning new things in 2012.

Like I say I need to de-clutter so I have been clearing out my spare room by selling bits on Ebay (my items) and have sold a few bits here and there. I have learnt that another way to save money (on ebay) is to wait until they have free insertion days and list items for 0.99p. I still have a whole ton of items to get rid of and am still being charitable by donating sacks full to local charity shops.

I still have a long way to go so wanted to ask: What are you best 'saving for a rainy day' tips?

Take care and let me know if you want to buy anything from me ;-)

Hey Kate, your eBay idea with the free days and the 99p listings is great. I have been meaning to do the big clear out for so long... I will get round to it and use your tips - thanks! :)

Sounds like you've already had some great ideas and Kate's meal planning blog is great.

One other thing I do is have a large bottle by the front door (old style pepsi/whisky bottle type thing) in which I put my change. I've noticed that the grandparents pop a few coppers in there now and then too! Every little helps - we use it for spending money on days out, money for slot machines on the pier at Brighton etc.

Ooh more good tips #bringsYounglingsmoneyboxdownstairs I keep thinking of ideas. My brother says I'm pushing the hard sell at the moment. Literally trying to sell everything and save as much as possible. Speaking of my brother I've had some good news - I will go post about it now ;-) xx

Hi there. I too am on a Frugal mission for 2012. I have managed to sell 36 books on Amazon over the last week. It really is easy to set up a little shop. You may not make a fortune, but every penny helps! Make sure that you do your own online postage though, I have found that my local post office over charges me! So, if you have books to declutter, I highly recommend Amazon!

Wow THUH, 36 books is amazing well done you. I used to sell some on Amazon but they got a bit too crowded on there and weren't selling as much. I will have to re-load some on there. Thanks hun. Keep the great tips coming, will add them with a link to you all on Friday's :-) xx
