Last week I mentioned the option of cutting your own hair if you cannot afford a visit to the hairdressers. Or if you know a mobile hairdresser possibly exchanging services such as babysitting, gardening etc. for a quick trim.

This week I am looking at more options to saving a penny or two.

I recently received a humungous water bill, which for a single parent probably isn’t as bad as it could have been. It shocked me nonetheless. I have become so conscious of every drop of water Youngling and I are using. Even when brushing our teeth.

I am trying to have more showers than baths and trying to share bath/shower time with Youngling. It isn’t as bad as it may sound. It saves time, killing two birds with one stone and is generally great fun. If you can manage to cut your water down it will be a huge help to the household.

I have also been scrounging through my wardrobes and drawers searching for more possessions I could sell. I came across some old jewellery that I no longer wear or have never worn. I thought I could send them into a Cash For Gold website and exchange the gold jewellery for cash – funnily enough, as if the title of the site name didn’t give the game away. I really wish I could have kept some of the gifts from Doo, including my engagement ring. Though I utterly loved that darn ring I could have parted with it now. That would have helped top up the kitty. Instead I made sure I gave everything back. There are too many memories linked with personal items such as jewellery.

Though I could part with some items of jewellery I don’t think it is advisable to exchange all your jewellery for cash. I mean I couldn’t take my Nanna’s necklaces that were left to me in her will. Or my cousin’s Comedy/Tragedy broach. When certain things have such meaning they are literally priceless. To me anyway.

What’s the most priceless possession you own? How/where did you get it?

So thus far we've learnt:

My laptop is one of my most priceless items only because it is the window to everything that I do from writing to social media to talking to family. I would be devastated if I lost it.
6 February 2012 23:20Ooh me too. I love it soooo much. I have been by your site and it looks fab :-) I will definitely be back soon to comment - struggling with time on the laptop right now (joys of having a terrible two year old). Thanks for swinging by :-) xx
